My Computer Restarts itself, Why?

My friends sometimes asked me why their computer restarts itself? Of course it’s not a normal habit of computer. After I browse Internet I found some reason that can make computer restarts itself.

Computer restarts due to overheating

Many program can cause the computer overheating. For example Itunes, RealPlayer, Windows Media player, etc. They always require a lot of processing power to decompress and decode music files, which can cause the processor or hard drive to get hot. So the first possible problem you should see is this. Try not to play many audio video program. If the problem doesn’t stop, your computer is still restarts, move to second possible reason.
If your CPU is running at over 60 degrees (C) you might be at risk of burning it out. Some systems shut down automatically when the temperature reaches an unsafe level. So try to clean your computer fan every weeks. Dust can always restricts the airflow and prevents proper cooling. You can use a can of compressed air (look at your local office supply store) or an old toothbrush. I believe it can drop your computer temperature significantly.

Computer restarts due to faulty RAM

If you determine that overheating is not the problem, the most likely suspect is bad memory. Trying to access a bad spot in your system memory (RAM) can cause the computer to freak out and restart. The best way to find the problem is to pop open the system unit, remove (or replace) one RAM stick and see if the problem is solved. Run your system for a while and if the problem goes away, you win!

Computer restarts due to faulty Hard-disk

Faulty hard disk is one of the most common reasons for abrupt computer restarts. Run a hard disk scan to fix this issue. If there are bad-sectors on your hard-disk, its the time to get it replaced.

Computer restarts on attaching some external USB device

Sometimes if we attached memory card readet to computer, the computer restarted.
It was a faulty device. So the fix is, remove all external USB devices and insert one by one, and see which device is causing problem.

Some software causing operating system crash causes computer restarts

Sometimes a software can also be the culprit behind the computer restarts. If you have recently installed any new application or game, and computer has started to restart when using that application or game, you need to un-install it to fix the issue.
